How to Get to Calgary
Calgary is easily accessible by air, with Calgary International Airport (YYC) being the primary hub for both domestic and international flights. The airport is located about 17 kilometers (10 miles) north of downtown Calgary and is connected to the city by taxis, shuttle buses, and ride-sharing services like Uber.
If you’re traveling by road, Calgary is well-connected via major highways. It’s about a 1.5-hour drive from Banff National Park, a little over 3 hours from Edmonton, and a 5-hour drive from the US border.
Must-See Sights and Activities in Calgary
The Calgary Tower is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Standing at 191 meters (627 feet), it offers panoramic views of Calgary’s skyline, the Bow River, and the surrounding mountains. For an even more thrilling experience, you can walk out on the glass-floored observation deck, which gives you a bird’s-eye view of the city below. It’s a must-see for first-time visitors and those looking to get a sense of the city’s scale.
While not directly in the city, Banff National Park is just a short drive away and is one of the top attractions for visitors to Calgary. The park offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in Canada, with snow-capped mountains, turquoise lakes, and world-class hiking trails. It’s the perfect place to spend an afternoon strolling, enjoying some local food, and browsing through boutique stores. The Nash: Located in the historic Inglewood neighborhood, The Nash serves up modern Canadian cuisine with a focus on seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients. The ambiance is chic, and the menu features everything from steak frites to fresh seafood.

Alforno Bakery & Café: A Calgary favorite, Alforno Bakery offers fresh-baked bread, pastries, and coffee, along with a variety of breakfast and lunch options. It’s a cozy spot to grab a bite or enjoy a leisurely brunch.
Brewery Tours: Calgary has a burgeoning craft beer scene, and one of the best ways to experience it is by taking a brewery tour. With many local craft breweries, such as Tool Shed Brewing and Big Rock Brewery, you can taste unique brews and learn about the beer-making process.
The Rooftop: This was my personal favorite restaurant. It is a bit tricky to find, however, once you find it, you will fall in love with it’s atmosphere. The Rooftop, has a glass roof, giving you the illusion to be sitting on an actual rooftop restaurant, which makes this a great choice even in the winter.
